Carved
signs are most common in areas of the country such as New England.
They are made by removing part of the material "carving",
and leaving the lettering and design behind. Two of the more common
materials used are wood and high-density urethane. A similar product
that is a little more common in our area is sandblasted
signage. Here the excess material is "blasted" away
rather than carved. Please look at that category also - it is
located later in this section.
More effort
is given to finishing this type of sign and often gold leaf (real
gold) is applied to the sign to enrich the look. Shape and pictorials
or graphics are also very important elements. All together, you
end up with a very impressive looking sign.
Some of the
factors that determine the cost of a carved sign are:
- The size
of the sign.
- Quantity.
- Number
of different colors.
- Whether
there will be any logos or graphics.
- Installation.
